The Church of St Sophia, built in the middle of the 8th century AD, has undergone several modifications over the centuries, partly due to earthquakes and partly to architectural interventions that have altered its original appearance. In the 20th century, a careful restoration brought the building back to its original form, restoring the harmony and uniqueness that make it today an exceptional testimony to Lombard art and culture.
